What are Stem Cells
Stem cells are biological cells with a specialty. They have the ability to differentiate into specialized cells which in turn further divide again by a process called mitosis. They are found in multi cellular organisms including humans. Adult stem cells are mostly found in the bone-marrow, adipose tissue and blood. Extracting the stem cells from them is different for each source. With advancements in technology, we have reached a stage where we can even artificially grow stem cells and differentiate them according to our need. These stem cells are very useful in preventing or treating certain diseases, bone-marrow transplant being the most widely used form of stem cell therapy.
What is Stem Cell Therapy
This is nothing but a medical process wherein stem cells are used for prevention or treatment of a disease of a medical condition. Here a few stem cells are retrieved from the patient’s body from any of the sources mentioned above. These are then harvested and differentiated. Then they are re-injected into the body of the patient where it is required to. Then the stem cells will change themselves and repair the damaged tissue in the part of the body where there is a problem.
Stem Cells for Knees
The usage of stem cell for knees has become quite popular and widespread with stem cells being able to repair many knee problems, arthritis being the major one. The stem cells are extracted from the body and harvested for some time. When they reach the required amount, they are again injected back into the cartilage in the knee. Then the stem cells start the repair procedure and cure the disease or problem experienced by the patient.
With the power of division and differentiation, stem cells have proven to be the solution for knee problems for many people all over the world. It is easy and effective and has garnered a lot of popularity among the people.
